Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects more than 15.3 million Americans. COPD is a progressive lung disease that makes breathing very difficult for patients. While unfortunately there is currently no cure for COPD, there has been continuous research into a variety of treatments that may be able to ease associated symptoms.
CBD has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties that may help alleviate some of the harsh COPD symptoms that patients struggle with. Some recent studies have shown that CBD can help reduce inflammation within the respiratory system. This in turn can improve blood oxygenation and airflow, allowing those with COPD to breathe more easily. When patients with COPD experience inflammation in the lungs, this causes shortness of breath and leads to uncomfortable chest pain. CBD has the potential to relieve this pain as well as soothe anxiety and depression symptoms that can come as a result of COPD.
